I pretty much love this song and video and had to share. As I approach my 33rd birthday this week, I have been reflecting a little & the lyrics to this song pretty much resonate within me. I really couldn’t put my thoughts into words any better.

“If I could write to the kid I was before
I’d tell him you’ll get everything you ever wanted
But you will still want more.”

…Yep, so very true. When I was a kid I always dreamed of being an artist and owning my own business. As I find myself now living out those dreams, I also find myself always wanting more. Don’t we all? It’s human nature to always want more, ah? To never be satisfied? But I’ve been thinking, maybe that “more” we crave isn’t about achieving more goals or gaining more “things” for ourselves, but rather, maybe the “more” is taking what we do have/have been given & blessed with, and doing “more” with it. Not to make it bigger and better, but to use our success/status/means to give more to others.

The older I get the more I realize that I am happiest when I give to others. It’s no new concept or revelation, and I am sure everyone has heard it said or quoted or read it somewhere before. The magic happens when you actually experience it. We can let ourselves shrink inward in this life, from disappointments, hurts, failures, etc. over time, but that’s no way to live. I’ve had my share of  “junk” in this life. I prefer not to bore anyone with the laundry lists of my past, but instead I choose to praise God for what He has brought me through. Just like this song says, a lot of folks told me I couldn’t do this or that, but here I am! That’s all that matters now. It was never about proving anything to anyone, I just simply did what was in my heart to do! I’ve been close to losing my faith in humanity a few times, I won’t lie, but I push through and still choose to see the good in people. What matters is gravitating in the direction in which your heart strings are being pulled.

So, as I step into year 33, I am thankful for where my life has brought me thus far, for the lessons I’ve learned and the ones ahead, for all that God has given me, for the people I have been blessed to come into contact with, and most of all, for the opportunities I have to continually pay it forward, give, love, and bless others.

33 here I come, with open arms.
